10 Homebody Date Nights

I know more and more things are opening back up, but what I’ve realized the most during the time of the COVID is that my husband and I really like staying home. We have really had fun these past few months. We have been gardening together, going on walks, and binge watching some shows. That’s what we like, but you, on the other hand, may miss the outside world and crave a little date night so I came up with 10 different and romantic things you can do even if you can’t go out!

1. Movie night

Simple, right? But it only works if you make it special. Don’t just throw on the next episode of whatever you’re watching and binge as per usual. Date night has to be intentional. 

Pick an actual movie. Make popcorn. Have a tray of drinks and snacks. Create a blanket fort. Turn off all the lights! Recreate a cosy cinema experience.

2. Mario Kart!!!

Really. Play Mario Kart together. Or, you know, any kind of fun multiplayer game on Xbox, old school Nintendo or whatever game console you have. Shoot, even playing Words with Friends on your phones could be fun! Challenge each other, or play in a team. Time will fly, I guarantee it.

It’s not only fun. This is great for your relationship! You can learn how to cooperate, or compete. Either way, you learn about how the other person approaches tasks and problem solving. Those are skills worth practicing. 

3. Reading Date

Each of you picks a book off your shelf, and read together in silence. This is surprisingly romantic! It’s about the nearness of the other person. You can stop and share what you’re reading every few minutes.

Enhance your experience by putting on some relaxing music. Brew some tea or coffee. Have some snacks (but maybe avoid chips if you’re eating in a silent room!).

4. Fancy Dinner

Cook up something EPIC! Pick a dish that is just at the limit of your cooking ability – or even beyond that – and make a night out of the challenge of cooking. 

I’m not much of a cook myself, but even I can attempt something new. So pour some wine, dirty a few dishes, and try to make a masterpiece. You can even break out those fancy plates that you never use!

5. Photo Albums

Take a trip down memory lane and look through your photos! Reminisce on your last overseas trip, or the year you met your special someone. Get your scroll on and find those old embarrassing Facebook photos! 

Most importantly, share the stories behind the photos. This is a great way to remind yourself of the journey of life, or even learn things about each other you didn’t know before. 

6. Exercise

This might not appeal to you. But it’s so important to stay active while you’re in isolation. Working out together is a great way to motivate and support each other. 

Pick something you both like. Go for a long walk, or use whatever equipment you have at home. You can YouTube some decent Yoga or Pilates classes for free. Try it out!

7. Write Love Letters

Go into separate rooms and write down how you feel about each other. You can write a poem, or a love letter, or a whole damn song if you can. Then come back and read it to each other.

Remember, in a relationship you should never assume your partner knows how you feel. Take the time to tell them in this special way.

8. Board Games

I know you usually save these for groups. Yet there are some great board games for two people. There are popular games like Settlers of Catan, Game of Thrones, or anything with Disney on it, for example. (Maybe not Monopoly, unless your relationship is strong enough!)

If you’re unsure what to pick, there’s always card games. Try Uno, War, or good old Gin Rummy for example. And there’s always classics like Chess or Checkers. If you don’t own a physical copy, you can probably find online versions. There’s plenty of options.

9. Wine Tasting

…look, I don’t promote binge drinking or drink myself. But for those of you that do, if you call it wine tasting, then it’s classy.  Haha!

Make a night out of mixing margaritas, composing cocktails, and smashing shots! Try something new, compare the taste, and find your new favorite drink.

10. Sexy Times

Yes, you read that correctly! And I mean it too. You should have sex. 

Your sex life is an important part of your relationship, yet it’s so easy to neglect it when life gets busy. So take this time in isolation and use it to prioritize improving your sex life. Reconnect. Don’t just have a ‘quickie’. Take your time to be intimate. Just make the most out of life.
