A Mission of Love and Hope
Sometimes things are just meant to be. When Lynn Gordon the president of Madonna Mission in Chicago reached out to me for a library book stamp I didn't even realize where the conversation would lead. She needed to stamp the books in the library for her organization with their logo on it. This is not an usual request, but what struck me is that this library was for refugee women and children trying to make a life for themselves in the US. So I went to their website and I devoured it. I was inspired by the programs Madonna Mission was offering to individuals and families and of course the children in this video pulled at my heart. The videos always get me. I knew Madonna Mission had to be the next charitable organization I gave to.
The Madonna Mission was founded in 2011 in Chicago in order to serve newly-arrived refugee women and children in assimilating to American culture, regardless of their race, religion, or economic status. The goal is to promote human dignity and instill the spirit of hope in their participants. Helping them connect with other women in their same circumstances, these women and children form friendships and support networks to help them become self-sufficient and thrive in their new home.
The participants are offered programs such as English classes for the women, and after-school tutoring and summer camps for the children. The goal of the Madonna Mission is to grow to offer their programs to more people, more frequently, to increase their impact in the refugee community of Chicago. You can read more about this inspiring organization here: www.madonnamission.org and you can support them by buying any product from Hello World Paper Co. & Stamps the whole month of June.
